NOTES

Movie - Coraline
I wanted to make the painting inside look like the Coraline tunnel. I made the outside of it look withered and old, while the inside is full of life and color. Kind of like when you look back on your life now vs your childhood.

INSPIRATION PICTURES :

This picture inspired me for my sculpture because of the

calming and flowy feel of the painting. I made sure to show the

connection to nature through my sculpture instead of painting.

This is my second photo I used for inspiration.

My sculpture used similar looks as the painting, I changed the mountains

Into 3D forms. I tried to keep the same calm, balanced feeling the painting has.

Secret lives of color assignment

Violet

I made this to show how rare violet used to be, the book says that
it used to be a luxury but now it's accessible to everyone.

Amber Poem

I used to be tree sap
sticky and soft
dripping down bark
in the hot sun.

Years went by and I hardened
turning gold like honey.
Now I hold tiny things
that time forgot.

People wear me as jewelry
say I glow like sunlight.
But really I’m just old sap
that never let go.

My poem is about amber. Amber comes from tree sap that hardens over
time. I wrote from ambers point of view to show how it keeps memories from its past.
It's color reminds me of sunlight and how something old can still shine.

Experimental Sculpture Collection Research A-C

 Research A - Alexis Granwell

”Ive been working with handmade paper since 2009. Can you walk us through your overall process? I begin by making pulp paintings in wet, handmade paper, sensitive to the ways its surface records my gestures, and allowing the pigments of color to disperse and build.

Research B - Julian Watts

He began with experimental hand carved spoons and bowls, and currently encompassing wooden sculpture, furniture making, drawing, painting, music, and stone carving.

Research C - Ted Lott

”One of the things that I love about woodworking is the incredible flexibility of the medium. There are so many things that you can do with the material in the realm of sculpture, furniture and beyond. It is a way of working that is truly accessible: a few basic tools and machines, and you can jump right in.”

Research B - AnDee Lumsden

In an interview AnDee states,” I began experimenting with many different found and used materials with the aim to ‘discover and reveal the jewel within.' The one that stood out the most as being amazingly versatile and beautiful was the corrugated cardboard box.” I found this super interesting since all the sculptures look incredibly realistic.
